Apple Rings
With Mazola® Corn Oil

Ingredients:
- 1 cup of all purpose flour
- ¼ tsp of baking powder
- ¼ tsp of ground nutmeg
- ½ tsp of cinnamon
- 2 tbls of sugar
- ¼ tsp of salt
- 1 large egg
- 1 ¼ cup of buttermilk
- 4 large apples
- 3 cups of Mazoal Corn Oil
- 1 jar of caramel sauce powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions:
- To a medium sized bowl add flour, baking powder, nutmeg, cinnamon, sugar and salt.
- In another bowl, whisk the buttermilk and egg together. Pour the liquid into the flour mixture and stir until just combined.
- Slice the apples into ¼ thick rounds. Using a cookie cutter cut each slice into rings and use a smaller cutter to cut out the center core.
- Add corn oil to a heavy bottomed pot and set to medium heat. Line a baking sheet pan with paper towels.
- Once the oil reaches 350°F, begin dipping the apple rounds into the batter.
- Shake off any excess batter and carefully lower into the oil.
- Add several rounds but do not overcrowd the pot.
- Once the apple rounds are golden brown, transfer to the baking sheet.
- Repeat with remaining apple rounds.
- Let the apple rings cool slightly and dust with powdered sugar.
- Serve with warmed caramel sauce.
